Code Development

To provide a Suncoast Chapter Code Interpretation document for all members to use thereby providing consistency and clarity throughout each member jurisdiction for plan review, building construction, and inspections.

Objectives:

To utilize the Suncoast Chapter Code Development Committee as the mechanism for all members to obtain code interpretations and guidance on all code related issues.

Scope:

The committee is to be comprised of licensed Code Administrators from the member jurisdictions of the Suncoast Chapter. The number of members is to be determined by the Board of Directors. The members will elect a committee chair to coordinate committee activities.

The process will work as follows:

• The member submits a request for a code interpretation to the committee chair.
• The request must include the code language and section, what the member feels the intent is, and the request for an interpretation.
• The committee chair will then submit the request to each of the committee members for response by a given date.
• The chair will then compile the results, submit them to the members and ask for a consensus vote based on the responses.
• The chair will then determine the consensus decision, prepare the interpretation, obtain final committee approval, and then include it in the code interpretation document for use by all members.
